Dragon flag – great abdominal exercise popularized by Bruce Lee (that I’m not really sure). A class 3 lever system with the shoulder blades acting as the fulcrum, core as the effort and the weight of the body as the load. You proceed by holding on to a stable surface overhead to counterattack the weight as you descend. Bring your torso and legs up, high enough so that you are supporting yourself on your shoulder blades. Slowly descend, toes pointing forward, core and glutes tight while being mindful of the hip position, making sure it doesn’t flex thereby breaking the tension on the abs.
Note: Aim for a ‘parallel to the floor’ end range, but if not, it does not matter as long as you go for the feel and of course, free of injury. Grade this exercise first, by starting on the floor instead of elevated. Next, by training on descending then resting your body on the floor instead of hanging and ascending back. Lastly, with knees bent all throughout the movement.
