ELDERLY/PWD HOME EXERCISES PROGRAM: DAY FIFTY FOUR-BALANCE

Step-Down to Balance: I lifted this exercise directly from NASM with few modifications to suit my patient’s needs. This exercise aims to improve strength and balance lacking in most of the elderly population. I am also hoping to improve her reflexes in responding immediately to changes in surface levels to keep her from accidental falls. Patient stands on top of a platform with feet shoulders-width apart and pointing straight ahead. She steps off the platform with one leg, keeping the toes pointing straight ahead and knee over the toes. Finally, she pushes through her front heel and stand upright, balancing on one leg. Patient holds the position for 3-5 seconds. Repeat accordingly.
