Military press/shoulder press – Not push press nor push jerk. Just old school shoulder to overhead movement to improve the deltoids (cannonballs). I am personally not a big fan of this exercise considering the wide room allowed for compensation (back, hips, knees). Did I mention I have a degenerative joint disease on my back? Yup, so I take it easy on this exercise, or any lifts that would load up my spine with less voluntary control . I use tolerable weight and wear a belt to add more stability when I brace. I go through the movement pushing up and back. Cue to self is to put more pressure on the thenar eminences of my hands pushing up and forward like trying to bend the bar upwards, the movement would put the shoulders into internal rotation, thus squeezing the deltoids more. I always try so hard to keep a stable back, more often finding myself secretly leaning back or thrusting my hips. Oh, and i’m not the only guilty party here, I witnessed you, and you and you are doing the same thing. I prefer sitting on the utility bench for this exercise or the military press rack itself for back support and to prevent me from compensating.
