Wide grip cable row – another area that I neglected when I started, because just like most gym goers then, everyday’s chest day for me. Now, I favor it more next to hamstrings because I know it needs more work in my case. I also realized how intricate and beautiful back muscles were when you get them to separate and pop, the symmetry, the striations. I do this exercise as an alternative to other row variations(bent over, hammer strength) because it’s not too risky on my back or restrictive, especially if it’s my second split of the week or following multiple vertical loaded splits(upright presses, squats, deadlifts). The process for this exercise is common knowledge. The only thing I do different is that I try to divide my back into three parts (upper/mid/lower) considering how it spreads and what synergistic muscles I would like to include. Here, I am going for the mid back in which I also placed some focus on the rhomboids, infraspinatus, teres minor and lower trapezius. I understand that it’s impossible to really isolate them all, but my love and passion for human anatomy in my profession helps me at least to visualize how those muscle contract during the workout. I don’t throw heavy resistance for this exercise, I put more attention to the concentric pauses and the eccentric movements with my elbows as guide instead of my hands.
