Stiffed leg dead lift variation (smith’s machine) – I do this exercise on a platform to allow me to go as far down. Not seen in the video is the additional 2×4 block I placed halfway under my toes to position my ankles in dorsiflexion so as to increase the stretch as I go down. With my back straight and tight, I take a deep breath then descend slowly and with control to bring the bar on top of my feet up to the point of my limitation (tightness). Note: with heels firmly planted, I also lean as far forward as I descend (just don’t fall off the platform). I feel the hamstrings work more at the last quarter of the movement so have patience seeking it, don’t do it half-assed and waste your time. If you feel any discomfort on your back in the process, please stop, work on flexibility training and postural control without weights.
