Military press(smith machine variation) – This exercise focuses on anterior deltoids (front shoulders). The idea is to use the sagittal plane instead of the coronal plane to isolate the anterior deltoids instead of the middle deltoids. The heavier you go, or if you have underdeveloped front shoulders, the higher the chance of the middle deltoids to take over(synergistic dominance). Hence the use of a band positioned on the elbow region to keep the arms on the sagittal plane. The idea is to slowly increase resistance while maintaining a good form. The inclined bench should be positioned high enough (almost upright) to prevent compensation from the upper pectorals.
